Some sessions are planned down to every detail…
And then some are created in the middle of real life—messy, meaningful, and a little bit wild.
This family session at The Beverly Harris House was extra special, because for once…
I wasn’t the one behind the camera the whole time.

A Family Session Where I Let Go of Control
I set the camera settings.
Checked the light.
Made sure everything was ready to go.
And then?
I handed my camera to my twin sister.
And let my kids run wild.
No over-directing.
No trying to manage every moment.
No chasing perfection.
Just trust.

Letting My Kids Be Exactly Who They Are
There was no expectation for stillness.
No pressure to “perform.”
They ran from room to room.
They laughed loudly.
They interacted in the way they always do—full of personality, energy, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting.
And instead of trying to rein it in…
I let it happen.
Because this is our real life.
Not perfectly posed.
Not always calm.
But full of connection and joy.
The Beauty of Letting Go
This session reminded me of something I tell my clients all the time:
You don’t have to control every moment for it to be meaningful.
In fact, sometimes the most beautiful images come when you don’t.
When you step back.
When you trust the process.
When you allow space for real life to unfold.

A Reminder for Photographers (and Parents)
If you’ve ever felt like your own family photos need to be perfect, let this be your permission slip:
They don’t.
Set the scene.
Trust someone else.
Let your kids be wild and free.
Because at the end of the day, what you’ll treasure most isn’t how “perfect” everything looked…
It’s how it felt to be right there in it.
